Scenes From Nowhere.

In this new body of work, “Scenes from Nowhere,” Caitlin presents a series of street vignettes that explore memory and nostalgia through the textures of a rapidly gentrifying neighbourhood.

Having spent her formative childhood years in this community, Caitlin formed connections with locals and explored the streets and neighbours’ backyards as her playground. She draws upon these memories to convey a sense of personal nostalgia for Sydney’s Inner West suburbia while examining the delicate balance between presence and absence, illuminating the stories embedded within the environment.

Through these images, Caitlin aims to foster a deeper connection to the scenes that shape our collective experience, revealing the beauty in the often-overlooked details that define a community.

‘Scenes From Nowhere’ is a body of work that is incredibly close to my heart. Each image is a deep personal reflection on my connection to the community I grew up in, and how this place exists in my mind and memory.

In a time where we are seeing such rapid change in physical development, cultural diversity and uniqueness in small businesses, I felt an urgency to document what’s remaining of these elements I so fondly remember. This is not a documentation from an archival perspective, but rather a personal journal of memory and place that I hope others can connect with.

Change is inevitable and sometimes essential, but preservation of memory is a very human endeavour. And this is my reflection of that experience.— Caitlin Jackson
